Software Engineer (.NET/Azure)

We're looking for a Software Engineer (.NET/Azure) in Christchurch, New Zealand.

NV Play is the operating system of cricket. For 20 years our software has run match day for the biggest names in the game, from the England and Wales Cricket Board, the ICC, and Cricket Ireland to the Mumbai Indians, Cricket New South Wales, and Surrey at the Kia Oval. Now we're taking our elite software to every level of cricket, worldwide.

Underneath that system lies a platform that’s fast, reliable, and ready for whatever a live match throws at it. Your job is to build it.

The role

You'll work on the foundations NV Play depends on: live scoring and match data services, real-time feeds to broadcasters and fans, our desktop and mobile scoring apps, and the Azure platform they all run on.

This is a backend and cloud role with real DevOps ownership. You'll write C# and .NET services on SQL Server and Azure, and you'll own how they're built, released, monitored and scaled. You'll report to our Engineering Manager and work alongside our product, AI and QA engineers.

This is a hands-on role for someone who likes owning what they build all the way to production, and who gets real satisfaction from a quiet alerts channel on a busy match day.

What you'll work on

  • Backend services and APIs for live scoring and match data.
  • Real-time services that keep scorers, broadcasters and fans in sync, ball by ball.
  • Our desktop and mobile scoring apps, and how they sync with the platform.
  • Pipelines, infrastructure and monitoring, so we ship often and spot problems before customers do.

What you'll do

  • Design, build and run C# and .NET services and APIs on SQL Server and Azure.
  • Build real-time features that hold up under live match load.
  • Own CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Keep the platform observable, secure and cost-effective as it grows.
  • Use AI coding tools as part of how you work every day, and check what they produce before it ships.
  • Take your turn on support triage and incident response (you build it, you run it).

You'll bring

  • 4+ years' commercial software development, shipping and supporting production systems.
  • Strong C# and modern .NET, and solid SQL Server.
  • Experience running production workloads in Azure, including monitoring, alerting and incident response.
  • Hands-on ownership of CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience with real-time or high-concurrency systems.
  • Daily use of AI coding tools, and the healthy scepticism to check their work before it ships.
  • Automated testing, Git and pull request workflows.
  • Clear communication, including explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical colleagues.
  • A deep passion for (or at least a sound understanding of) the game of cricket.
  • An organised approach to work, life, and getting sh*t done.
  • An eye for detail. If your friends call you pedantic, you should talk to us.

Bonus points

  • Real-time web technologies such as SignalR or WebSockets.
  • Desktop or mobile app development in .NET.
  • Multi-tenant SaaS and identity.
  • Integrating third-party data feeds.

Why NV Play

  • At NV Play, cricket is the job. So if you love the game, you get to live it here. You’ll spend your days building software used by international teams, county and state sides, schools, and the club down the road.
  • You’ll see your work live on match day. The scorecards, streams, and stats fans follow ball by ball – you'll have built them all.
  • We’re a great team. We’re small, senior, and straight up. We play as a team, win as a team, and never lose our sense of humour along the way.
  • We have our own private bar. Because some problems are best solved over a cold one after stumps.
  • We’ve spent twenty years at the top of elite cricket, and now we’re going global. There's plenty of room for good people to help us shape what comes next.

How to apply

Send us your CV and a short note on why you'd be good at this role. Tell us about something you've built that you're proud of (a link to code, a product, or a write-up beats a list of buzzwords).

Applicants must have New Zealand residency or a valid work visa. We'd like this role to be based in Christchurch, and we'll ideally meet you there for interviews.
